Thor! The newest Marvel movie to hit the big screen. I wasn't sure how this was one was going to pan out, since I never really paid attention to Thor in the Marvel comics.
So Thor is raised to be the next king of Asgard, but turns out he is
still a punk. His dad, Odin banishes him for that very reason. His punishment? Being sent to earth to suffer with the rest of the mortals. He goes from ultimate warrior to just a really strong guy with a weird accent, turns out this is a really bad punishment for an Asgardian.
Thor was played by Chris Hemsworth, who starred as Captain Kirk's dad in the latest adaptation of Star Trek.
Natalie Portman, Who won an Oscar for Best Actress in Black Swan, played the scientist love interest of Thor. Sir Anthony Hopkins, known for his role in The Silence of the Lamb films, played Thor's Father Odin. The comic relief was Kat Dennings , who is probably best known for her role as Norah in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.
In the end, it turns out like every other Marvel movie. The good guys win, the bad guys lose, and the ending is a prelude to the next movie. The good thing about Thor, is that it's a good stand alone movie. Unlike Iron Man 2, which was just a prequel to the Avengers. I would definitely recommend this movie to Marvel fans or as a movie to catch with the kids. This movie kept me entertained and it was easy to get into the story, even if you aren't familiar with the Thor comics.
I would give this movie a solid 8 out 10.
