Super 8, Directed by J.J. Abrams. Starring Joel Courtney, Kyle Chandler, and Elle Fanning. In 1979, a small group of teenagers is filming a movie late at night, when they witness an outrageous train wreck. From here a mystery turns into a disaster for a small town. As the towns people start to disappear the kids continue to film their little movie. They get some amazing shots on their little super 8 camera as they work on their movie. Soon they are forced to investigate things and this is when they find they are in the middle of an amazing event that will change their small town forever.
This movie starts out slow until the train wreck. from then on it's fast pace brings you to the edge of your seat. Being set in '79, people who remember that time will be transformed back to that time. A side plot develops in the film about the relationships between the kids and their parents. This is what gives the film its heart and depth. It's very well written and in my opinion very entertaining for the whole family. of course it may be too intense for children under 10.
If I had one thing to criticize, it would be how dark some of the movie was. of course that was just to keep you in suspense. I give the movie an 8 out of 10. And I do recommend seeing it on the big screen. some of the shots will lose the awesomeness outside of the theater.
